Ghiordes Rug, Turkey, Circa 1900 - Highly reminiscent of the carpets from nearby Oushak, this lovely antique Ghiordes has an elegant medallion design with cornerpieces surrounding delicate viney floral sprays that float amidst the open field. Because of the extremely soft and delicate coloration with minimal contrast, much of the design recedes from the viewers notice, providing an impression of simplicity and openness. The border continues this approach in a slightly darker palette. The lustrous wool nicely complements the delicate effects of the color.
