Weave and StructureCollectors pay considerable attention to how a rug is woven since this is a good indicator of where it was made, its quality, and possibly its age as well. Knot types, warp-depression, and wefting are important indicators of the various groupings and sub-groupings whose identification so preoccupies and fascinates collectors. Tightness of weave can be an indication of quality, although many nomadic weavings are more loosely woven. A tightly woven rug that is nonetheless supple, however, will probably be an older piece of the type collectors seek. |
