Fashion News: Shoes Made Out Of Moroccan Rugs
Moroccan Rug Shoes are the new fashion trend!
Moroccan Rug Shoes – The art and soul of Moroccan rugs are making a jump from the African continent to international closets. From fashion runways, to boutique galleries, everything is turning up Kilim. The latest move is the shoe line from TEN & Co. that takes the vintage carpet and puts it, quite literally, on your feet.
“Designer Tory Noll stumbled upon a tiny shoe shop in Marrakech, and on a whim, had a simple oxford made with scraps of rug. When her friends wanted their own, she decided to go back and make a few more,” says the company’s website.
Since then, TEN & Co. has created a range of styles and designs that balance earthy tones and tribal prints with modern detailing. Cut from hand-woven antique rugs, the shoes are as wearable as the classic Oxford but each has a signature statement all its own.
“Since each style is made from one rug or woven blanket, every shoe is unique and bears the beauty and idiosyncrasies of the many hands that made it,” says TEN & Co.’s website.
Supporting both local culture and trade, TEN & Co.’s shoes are handmade individually by a cobbler in Marrakesh. A bustling city of souks and flea markets, there is arguably no better place to find vintage rugs.
With a worldly, well-traveled appearance, the Kilim rugs are the most versatile of the Moroccans. Their abstract patterns and intricate woven textures are the perfect compliment to anything from mid-century modern design, to big name fashion lines and classic shoe lines.
