Chinese Rug, China, Early 20th Century - This traditional Chinese carpet features a central Shou medallion flanked four Shou characters and a combination of clouds and bats popularized during the Qing Dynasty. Shou motifs, bianfu bats and Tibetan cloud motifs are used throughout the ornate field and spandrels. The carpet is completed by a Swistik-based fretwork border featuring a traditional cross-pattern for warding off evil spirits. The stunning borders feature highly-dimensional shading with two tones of indigo blue.
