Beautiful Tribal Vintage Persian Red-Rust Gabbeh Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Vintage
Nine panels climb the centre of a rust ground, alternating ivory, chocolate, orange and dull violet, each ruled with a line of small bright blocks. The stack widens as it descends, so the whole thing tapers upward to a small orange dome. Scattered flecks fill the ground on either side.
The taper is what makes it work — the eye is pulled to the narrow top rather than left to wander. Colour arrives in the blocks, a few knots at a time, against panels that stay flat and plain. The ivory border repeats a red frond down both long sides, looser and more organic than the strict red geometry it encloses.
At 3 ft 1 in by 5 ft 2 in it is one of the small rugs, upright in proportion and best seen end-on — a hallway or a narrow wall. Characteristic tribal rug work. Price is available on request, and it can be rewoven to your dimensions as a custom rug.
