Antique Khorassan Persian Carpet, late nineteenth century A rich and unusual allover design of flowering vases repeats rhythmically across the deep blue ground of this lush antique Khorassan. The interest of the design is heightened by the lovely coloration with deep persimmon, wedgewood blue, pale green, tans, and aubergine. The last color, used sparingly, recurs as the ground of the cartouche main border, whose vertical repetitions nicely echo the arrangement of the vases in the field. The ivory minor borders impart an accenting structure to the overall composition.
