Recalling the great masterpieces of Safavid Persian carpet weaving, an extended menagerie scampers across a lush landscape reminiscent of paradise on this sumptuous antique Meshad. In true classic Persian tradition, the vegetal and floral detail treads the line between pictorial and ornamental art, as does the placement of the animals in perfect symmetry. A minor vinescroll border separates the field from a main border with the same garden paradise composition a smaller scale. The soft coloration makes this an ideal decorative piece, in addition to its consummate artistry.
