Antique Khorassan, Persia, late nineteenth century - A fluid curvilinear trellis of vines and palmettes in pale blue and earth tones spreads gracefully across the field of this grandly elegant antique Khorassan. The design is so closely worked that the dark blue ground becomes little more than an accenting outline for the softly colored design with it s gentle, swaying rhythms. A delicate, finely proportioned vinescroll border on a cinnamon ground provides an effective framing contrast for the greater scale and richness of the field design.
