Antique Khorassan Persian Rug, early twentieth centuryEast almost appears to meet west in this charming and unusual antique Khorassan. An allover pattern of cartouches reminiscent of European design repeats gracefully across the pale cocoa ground, but interspersed with vines and flowers of classical Persian derivation. The Persian tradition predominates in the arabesque palmette borders, but preserving the detail and coloration of the field. The overall effect is pleasingly harmonious and wonderfully decorative, especially because of the reserved design and gentle palette.
