Antique Persian Mazandaran Kilim, Origin: Persia, Circa: Early 20th Century – Undiscovered in the West until the end of the 20th century, this antique Persian Mazandaran kilim is a pre-modernist gem full of color and minimalist detail. This spectacular creation displays an explosive selection of saturated cerise, cherry reds and delectable guava pinks that are skillfully woven together in a homogeneous allover pattern. Intensive, subtly abrashed berry tones fill the field with a vibrant color wash. This high-chroma space is separated from its neighbor by a fantastic crenellated divider with zigzagging contours and modular diamond-shaped components. The adjacent field displays a greater range of colors and warm-tone variations that make incursions into their neighbors and form a wonderful series of abstract shapes and patterns. These textural forms embody the essence of minimalism with a creative spirit unique to the pre-modernist era.
