Textile, Laos, Early 20th Century – This sophisticated antique Laotian textile showcases a beautiful, diversified composition that is decorated with geometric repeating patterns, polychromatic stripes and stylized floral motifs. The signature coral-red field creates the perfect backdrop to highlight the crisp white accents, intense violet figures and glowing saffron yellow decorations. Strong divided lozenges create a bold repeating pattern that is supported by geometric figures and casual eight-pointed stars. Secondary repeating figures traverse the composition simultaneously while emphasizing the creativity and individuality that goes into weaving a decorative textile of this nature. The splendid head band divides the composition and changes the visual flow while creating a decorative field that protects the beautiful stylized blossoms, geometric quatre foils and charming polka-dot stars that decorate the kohl black background.
