The field is composed of one speckled fleece. Flecks of dark brown and cream are speckled closely across the surface, reading as static rather than as color. A thin orange line runs the perimeter, and a few small marks in red and blue turn up at either end.
Leaving a Gabbeh entirely blank is a deliberate decision made by the weaver, not the absence of one. Instead of the inclusion of stylized shapes and forms, natural textured fibers are the main attraction. The pile is long, the speckle shifts as the light crosses it, and the brown adds warmth.
