Mid-Century Modern Abstract Pattern Swedish Kilim Runner Rug, Country of Origin: Central Asia, Circa Date: Modern
Blocks and bars are laid across the runner with no repeat anywhere: wheat ochre against pale oatmeal, slate blue rectangles, dark brown lines that turn a corner and simply stop. One short red bar and a single orange stroke are the only loud notes in it, and both are small.
It is a kilim — flatwoven, no pile — so the ribs of the weave run straight through the design and every edge is a step in the weft. The composition is abstract in the mid-century Swedish manner, deliberately off-balance, closer to a painting than a pattern.
At 3 ft by 12 ft 10 in it is a long hallway runner, narrow enough for a corridor and long enough to cover most of one. Price is available on request. The composition can be rewoven wider or longer as a custom rug.
