Today’s interior designer spotlight highlights one of the most influential and premiere American designers, Ellie Cullman of Cullman & Kravis. Ellie has influenced American interior design for the past 35 years and has been listed as a part of Architectural Digest 100 pretty much every year since 2000.
In 2009, she was awarded the Stars of Design award at the D&D building in NYC. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Cullman is a prime example of one of New York’s finest who has risen to the top of the design world. She shares her expertise with others in the books she coauthored with Tracey Pruzan, “Decorating Master Class: The Cullman Kravis Way”, and “The Detailed Interior: Decorating Up Close with Cullman & Kravis”.
Ellie Cullman comes from an art background. She studied East Asian Studies at Columbia and worked as a curator for the Museum of American Folk Art before starting Cullman and Kravis with her late partner, Heidi Kravis. Cullman has also served on the boards of the MoMA, the Film Society of Lincoln Center and was a board member of the Brooklyn Museum from 1998 to 2009.
Her rich background in the arts has made her quite the expert with incorporating antiques and decor into her interior designs. Ellie Cullman’s designs are both beautiful and breathtaking. She adds a sense of value to the spaces she works on, through luxurious designs and prestige.
The interiors designed by Ellie exhibit a fine tradition of American styling with beautiful attention to detailed and valued decor. Having worked on ornate New York City apartments and townhouses, fresh and vibrant summer homes and homely historic country homes, Cullman’s artistry lies in her ability of inventing and re-inventing those spaces she creates.
Her modern design approach of incorporating valuable decorative pieces in classic and traditional homes really adds a special touch of unique and quality status.
