A monumental compartment design defined by bold, beaded strapwork unfolds down the length of this one-of-a-kind Bidjar.

Antique Bidjar Rug, Origin: Persia, Circa: Late 19th Century – A monumental compartment design defined by bold, beaded strap work unfolds down the length of this one-of-a-kind antique Bidjar. Lush acanthus leaves and lotus palmettes fill the various compartments against the imposing dark ground, while heraldic lions rear across the strapwork borders. The finely wrought detail of the ‘turtle’ vine-scroll main border offers an appropriate contrast to the monumental scale and bolder graphics of the field, with ivory ground vine scroll minor borders to underscore the framing function. The classic Bidjar palette of rich reds, golds, green, and blue provides the perfect complement to the design.

This wonderfully unique antique Persian Bidjar rug features a pattern of regal lions woven in ivory and orange on an abrashed navy blue ground. Behind the lions winds an open yet ornate crimson trellis and accompanying green flora that add layers to the rug and elicit perspective within the design. A classic herati motif runs through the border and frames this piece perfectly. It is a rug that can be used for both its decorative and refined features and is also very collectible for its unique design.
