Often used to provide protection against the forces of the evil eye, this carpet features a grand series of inset lozenges surrounded by a rainbow variety of colorful outlines that expand into a number of slanting stripes rendered in a graphic combination of scarlet and somber blue, a typical but exceptionally well wrought style of vintage area rugs from Morocco. The central inset lozenges, which are an integral part of the composition, feature an exquisite range of traditional Moroccan colors, including clear cobalt blues, vermilion, viridian and kohl black.
