Antique Turkish Sivas Rug, Turkey, Early 20th Century – Richly detailed and beautifully colored, this magnificent antique Turkish rug from Sivas depicts a spectacular double medallion composition decorated with stylized palmettes, intricate repeating motifs and warm sun-kissed earth tones that capture the grandeur of regional designs. The beautifully detailed medallions are set over a plush camel-colored field that is framed by beautifully patterned spandrels. Intricate botanical motifs rendered in a low-contrast combination of soft earth-tone colors decorate the regal main borders and the supportive guard bands. The distinguished composition incorporates a splendid array of large-scale motifs and minor elements that create a regal, well-balanced visage. Dramatic Hamsa-like florets and elaborate palmettes linked by sinuous vine scrolls create a formal Turko-Persian pattern that incorporates the best attributes of both design worlds.
