Swedish Rug, Sweden, Early 20th Century – This stunning vintage mid-century Kilim from Sweden immortalizes a fabulous design from the world famous master weaver Barbro Nilsson, who had a long and extremely productive career in association with the Marta Maas-Fjetterstrom atelier. This exquisite mid-century Kilim depicts beautiful overlapping boughs with rugged serrated edges. The dynamic colors and gradient details showcase soft mossy greens, deep sylvan browns and obscure grays that are offset by fiery auburn reds and rusty orange hues. The serrated boughs and handsome overlapping branches are punctuated by a phalanx of decorative ovoid figures that are filled with concentric details and small-scale patterns. These enthralling subtleties are evocative of the nuanced watercolor studies that served as patterns for Nilsson’s remarkable artistic creations.
