Vintage Persian Gabbeh Tribal Allover Pattern Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Vintage
One small motif, repeated everywhere: a short stem with a pair of arms curving up from it, something between an arrow and a sapling. It fills the ivory centre panel in tidy rows, alternating coral, grey, charcoal and brown, and it continues single-file around the taupe border, up both sides and across the top.
Running the same figure through the field and the border is unusual — a border is normally where the drawing changes. Doing it this way makes the taupe frame read as more field rather than as an edge, and the rug ends up feeling larger than it is. A narrow zigzag in red and dark navy finishes the outside.
At 4 ft by 6 ft 1 in it sits squarely in the 4 x 6 size rugs, and the neutral palette — ivory, taupe, a little coral — will take almost any room. Price is available on request, and the repeat can be run to another size as a custom rug.
