A Beautifully tribal and decorative antique Khotan rug, country of Origin: East Turkestan, Circa Date: Late 19th Century – White, brown and flaxen accents offset the intricate patterning from the neutral field. Buddhist-influenced cloud borders and Swastik fretwork inner borders ground the loosely decorated field, which features protection symbols and eastern-influenced spandrels representative of Khotan’s unique style. This traditionally composed piece features a classic pair of border motifs combined with pomegranates and patterns associated with East Turkestan.
