Kilim (Sofreh) from the Zagros Mountain Region, Persia, mid twentieth century – A cocoa field is enclosed dramatically by zigzag bands in black and persimmon red on this boldly striking Persian Kilim. The diamond motifs of the main green-ground border are done in weft-float embroidery, as are the four similar elements clustered at the center of the field. The precision of the geometry of the design is counter-balanced by the freedom and expressiveness of the drawing and richly contrasting colors.
