Antique Persian Malayer Scatter Area Rug, Persia, Turn of the 20th Century – Beautifully colored and wonderfully appealing, this antique Persian medallion rug exemplifies the clarity and charming simplification of village designs from Malayer and the greater Hamadan region. Delicate curvilinear decorations with well-defined features scroll across the beautifully colored ground while displaying a rich selection of jewel-tone colors, including clear greens, intense blues and a broad selection of berry reds that are juxtaposed against a clear ivory field. The grand medallion is filled with decorative rosettes and bookend-ed by explosive blossoming pendants. These elaborate decorations fit the decorative compartments and flatter the intricate ogee contours that define the medallion and elaborate corner spandrels. These sophisticated curving motifs are countered by symbolic lozenge-filled guard bands and formal main borders that display simplified turtle motifs that take on a shorter, stouter and more arthropod appearance.
