Richly Colored Vintage Persian Geometric Gabbeh Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Vintage
The field is built from horizontal bands, and nearly every one is a different red — crimson at the top, then scarlet, wine, salmon, coral, and a dusty rose at the foot. Sawtooth lines in grey-blue and charcoal run between them. One band of deep indigo interrupts the sequence a third of the way down.
Small figures scatter across the bands rather than line up: gold squares near the top, a row of ivory and orange lozenges through the middle, rosettes beneath them, three stepped diamonds along the bottom edge. Nothing is centred and nothing repeats exactly. Every shape is straight-sided — geometric rug drawing of the kind tribal rug weaving arrives at by eye rather than by plan.
At 3 ft 8 in by 4 ft 7 in this is a small piece — a bedside, an entry, or a wall, where this much red reads well at close range. The rug size guide covers placement at this scale. Price is available on request, and the palette can be woven larger as a custom rug.
