Antique Bezalel Rug, Origin: Israel, Circa: Early 20th Century – Here is a beautiful antique Oriental rug – an antique Bezalel rug that was originally woven in what would become the modern day state of Israel, during the early years of the twentieth century. Antique Bezalel rugs and carpets are rare and exceedingly beautiful, and are widely admired and collected, valued as they are for their rich cultural significance and exceptional designs and compositions. Although antique Bezalel carpets often contain Jewish or Biblical elements, this one is entirely an homage to classical Persian design. Vines, ribbons, and palmettes produce an allover trellis reminiscent of early Sarouks and Sultanabad, while the sumptuous cartouche border harks back to Safavid forerunners. The color juxtapositions are exquisite, especially the taupe tones with mauve, and they give the rug a very fresh and distinctive quality. A beautiful antique Oriental rug, this antique Bezalel from Israel is an exciting and noteworthy example of an important style.
