Antique Malayer Carpet, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa 1920 — Fiery tones establish an artful environment between the borders and the center of this antique carpet from the Persian Malayer rug weaving region. Through skilled use of the two main colors, the craftsman was able to convey a unified theme that still presents different elements in stark instances of contrast. Bright shades of vermilion and solid hues of gold each stand out in different ways throughout, allowing the viewer to play with negative and positive space as they appreciate the carpet’s intricate details. At the piece’s center, set in a field of gold, is a stunning chalice shape with lines of movement present within its form.
