Vintage Swedish Rya Rug, Origin: Sweden, Circa: Mid 20th Century – Here is a beautiful and exciting vintage carpet – a mid-century vintage Swedish shaggy wool pile Rya rug, woven in Scandinavia during the middle years of the twentieth century. In Scandinavia, the mid-century was a period of tremendous production, when new ideas about art and design worked their way into just about every school of design. The result was a tremendous surge in production, and some of the finest Swedish rugs and carpets were woven during this time. Innovative and charming, this captivating mid-century vintage carpet is colorful, expressive and wonderfully textural. The sumptuous tousled visage is adorned with a variety of geometric decorations, including sophisticated latticework figures, cryptic linear motifs and plush roundels set in protective cubbies. The expressive geometric decorations feature a vibrant, unexpected assortment of opposing hues, including soft celadon greens that are paired with deep burgundy reds, guava pink details and tropical oranges that are exuberant, fresh and inherently modern. This outstanding Swedish Rya has the extraordinary textures, saturated colors and graphic eye-catching patterns that are inextricably linked to Scandinavian textiles and designs.
