Vintage Swedish Shag Pile Rya Rug 49116, Country of Origin / Rug Type: Vintage Scandinavian Rugs, Circa Date: 1950’s – This expertly scaled vintage area rug plays with tones of blue, violet and turquoise, using the yarn to provide texture and shading. Horizontal and vertical lines define panels that enclose not quite round figures defined by contrasting light and dark lines. The symmetry of the Swedish Rya rug is expressed by the rhythm of light and dark lines and shapes that define three main panels. Discontinuous vertical lines separate the upper and lower panels from the central panel. The simple border of navy blue echoes the color of the vertical lines in the central panel and the partially shaded curvilinear figures in the top and bottom sections. This boldly patterned vintage mid-century modern Swedish Rya rug works well as both a carpet and a wall hanging.
