Antique Malayer Carpet, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: 1920 — Striking geometrical symmetry and stunning detail define this masterful antique rug. Woven by hand in Malayer, a large village in northwestern Persia known for particularly exceptional designs, this highly artistic piece features rich natural hues and striking, elegant design. The piece begins with a series of narrow, earth-hued borders. These fence a frame patterned with delicate renderings of soft blossoms around a larger, more defined border dominated by a bold geometrical motifs. This gives way to a second border patterned with delicate blossoms, which frames the dramatic core of this complex piece.

A rich background of black and deepest blue contrast sharply with the intricacy of the design. A series of richly detailed trees of life dominate the pattern, beautifully emphasized by striking floral geometry and finely rendered boteh motifs. Symbol of rebirth and ascension into heaven, the pairing of boteh and tree symbolize renewal and enlightenment, imbuing the piece with deep meaning. Magnificently beautiful and masterfully designed, this stunning work is a singular and beautiful statement piece.
