Sivas carpets from central Turkey are well known for their ability to reproduce the opulent design of and texture of classic Persian forerunners, and in this regard, this antique Sivas is one of the best. The field boasts a classic Kerman vine scroll pattern of palmettes in various shades of soft red, saffron, and ivory set against a rich blue ground. The classic red ground border provides an appropriate frame and contrast to the field, while echoing its delicate and detailed drawing.
