Vintage Swedish Double Sided Rug, Origin: Sweden, Mid-20th Century – Here is a charming vintage carpet – a mid-century Swedish kilim rug, woven in Scandinavia during the middle years of the twentieth century. A deeply dynamic piece, this rug features a rare double-sided design, with each side beautifully channeling some of the finer aspects of mid-century Swedish design. The pallet is evocative of a spring sky, or perhaps of a wooded lake; light shades of blue dominate, with detail work rendered in white and brown. On either side, the overall composition is generally straightforward. An unadorned band of blue serves as the border, while the opposing shade of blue serves as the field. Within the field, a pattern of brown and white geometric figures is presented. These small figures resemble small figures floating in a body of water, or, perhaps, floating through the sky. The overall impression of the composition is one of simplicity and understatedness – versatile qualities that infuse this carpet with tremendous utility, in addition to its straightforward charm.
