French Art Deco Carpet by Jacques Borker, Country of Origin: France, Circa: Middle Part of the 20th Century Jacques Borker is perhaps one of the best known and most influential tapestry designers of the twentieth century, and has long been admired for his fantastic abstract designs. Working out of Paris during some of the most important art movements of the era, Borker is known for his bold interpretation of the abstract, as well as for his mastery of line work. This striking vintage carpet is a fantastic example of Borker’s commitment to genuine, abstract design, and also speaks to the intense communicative power of his finest pieces. Effectively broken up into a field of soft, pervasive blue that surrounds a central design of combatting lines and colors, this intriguing French Art Deco rug is a quintessentially modern work. A fascinating array of colors, defined by a series of white lines, work to form a field of uneven and jagged shapes in the center of the piece, the energy of which is diffused elegantly into the field by the lines, which boldly overstep their bounds and piece the border.
