Beautiful Vase Design Antique Persian Kerman Rug, Persia, Circa 1900 – Antique Persian Kerman area rugs are the proud heirs of a long tradition reaching back to the great Persian carpet masterpieces of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, but rarely do they capture so effectively the design and stately presence of such forerunners. This exquisite example is descended from the classical Kerman ‘vase carpets,’ with its allover design of lush vines and palmettes emerging from stylized amphorae. A richly detailed vine scroll border frames the field, using a smaller scale as a visual counterpoint. Unlike the vibrant classical forerunners, the palette here is subdued and elegantly decorative.
