Diamond-Pattern Vintage Persian Gabbeh Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Vintage
A column of large diamonds climbs the centre of the field — one in hot orange, one in near-black aubergine, a third in dusty purple — against a camel ground that shifts through rust and rose in broad horizontal bands. Small figures in red and dark brown scatter around them, several no more than a few knots wide.
That banded movement in the ground is abrash, and here it carries the rug: the field keeps shifting even where the pattern holds still. The drawing is loose and unmeasured in the way tribal rug weaving tends to be — plotted by eye at the loom rather than set out in advance.
It measures 3 ft 7 in by 5 ft 4 in, an accent size that suits a hallway, a study, or a spot beside a bed where the diamonds can be seen whole. See the rug size guide for placement at this scale. Price upon request; larger pieces in a comparable palette can be woven to order as a custom rug.
