Antique Caucasian Karabagh Runner Rug, Country of Origin: Caucasian, Circa Date: 1920– This long Caucasian rug features bright colors that depict scenes much like frames in a film reel. Solid blue, red and green back each portrait, setting off the people and animals depicted within. The largest, forest-hued panel features two people on a horse, one carrying a pheasant, likely returning from a successful hunting trip. Each of these panes is separated by a colorfully striped bar. A white border surrounds the main body, packed with stylized forms that bring to mind angular flowers, created with every shade used within the Karabagh rug’s scenes. Smaller bars edge the primary border with colorful bands of color.
