Antique Collectible Chinese Zodiac Rug, Country of Origin: Chine, Circa Date: 1900 – A pleasantly simplistic indigo blue border draws the eye to the navy background the field, which further leads the viewer’s attention to the circular medallion design as a focal point of the Chinese Zodiac design. This antique Chinese carpet features whimsical depictions of the Zodiac animal design symbols, each following one another in a circle reminiscent of the calendar year. Ivory tones are set brightly against the luxurious cobalt blue Chinese design elements, which are further accented by the creamy eggshell and the paler lapis lazuli. The presence of all of these colors add depth and detail to the work. A Qilin, which is a Chinese chimera that represents prosperity and good fortune, rests in the center of the animal’s parade.
