Antique Persian Kilim, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: Early 20th Century – This formal antique Persian kilim rug features a rich variety of cultural details and ancient protection symbols that have been used for millennia. The precisely composed field showcases a formal inset medallion decorated with boldly outlined stacked lozenges and small-scale protection symbols. Crenellated fence borders create a protective barrier along with a series of partial lozenges that form a lovely inner border with zigzagging edges. Clear colors and crisp white accents emphasize the outlines of each auspicious protection symbol. Rectilinear goz motifs and berekets, a traditional representation of masculinity and virility, dot the warm, earthy brown field. Ornate striped end pieces with directional chevrons rendered in oxidized blue and crisp white decorate the ends of this masterfully executed small size area rug created circa 1920.
