Design Philosophy
Hampton’s designs are based in elegant classic aesthetics, styled in a way that makes sense for modern living. She takes a smart approach to her curating, looking critically at compositional balance and proportion. Artfully planned pops of asymmetry in otherwise symmetrical spaces, and carefully chosen color combinations are part of her contemporary Neoclassicism.
Materials & Color Preferences
Hampton favors deep, rich colors, taking a liking to the contrast between oranges and purples. The colors of wines and spirits particularly interest her, with burgundies and browns making the rotation as well. An eclectic variety of patterns common in her designs, creating a clean maximalist aesthetic. She often uses silk tiger velvet, claiming it “goes with everything.”
Sustainability & Craftsmanship
A fan of classics, Hampton believes sustainability is a great and noble role. She is especially energized by antiques, whether they be rugs or furniture. Hampton is always looking to keep learning about how to better her sustainability efforts.
Signature Approach
Alexa Hampton’s designs seek to maintain a graceful order to an interior. Inspired by the Neoclassical conventions of harmony and balance, her style is carefully composed to make sense. Every element in her designs is a deliberate choice with thought put into how it will contribute to the overall composition.

Designer Q&A: Inspiration, Process & Perspective
How would you describe your design style in a few words?
I hope that it's intelligent, thoughtful, and seemingly inevitable. I don't know what it always is but, that's the goal.
How do current fashion trends influence your interior design choices?
I always try to avoid trends. What it means to be a part of a trend is that you anticipate its passing out of favor. I'd rather try for a timeless pleaser. Nobody wants their design to have a sell by date.
Who or what has influenced your aesthetic the most (a designer, artist, era, or even a city)?
I have a zillion design heroes and the list keeps expanding. Madeleine Castaigne, Fences Elkins, Syrie Maugham, and Bunny Williams all pack a punch.
How do you usually incorporate rugs when starting a design scheme, as a foundation or as an accent?
It really varies from project to project. Historically, I start with the fabrics, but that is because I have had very good luck finding gorgeous rugs.
Do you have a favorite piece or style from the Nazmiyal Collection?
I especially love Oushaks and Sultanabads. But every time I walk into Nazmiyal, I fall in love with something new.
Any favorite memory or project from working with the Nazmiyal team?
I have had a handful of amazing days at Nazmiyal where the client and I have walked in and then walked out with 3 big rugs for vital public rooms.
