Design Philosophy
Gissler approaches interior design as a balance between architecture, art, and everyday life. He believes a home should serve the people who inhabit it, not simply perform for the sake of appearance. Every project begins with structure, flow, proportion, storage, light, and evolves into carefully layered environments enriched by art, objects, and materials with history.
He favors interiors that unfold gradually: nuanced, meaningful, and grounded in authenticity rather than spectacle. His work often blends pieces from different eras, cultures, and levels of formality, creating a sense of dialogue and lived experience.
Materials & Color Preferences
Gissler gravitates toward materials with integrity, natural textures, honest finishes, and surfaces that age gracefully. He values patina, craftsmanship, and the quiet confidence of objects made with intention. His color sensibility leans toward subtle, atmospheric palettes that support architecture and art rather than compete with them.
Texture and materiality are central to his work: textiles, metals, wood, ceramics, and art all play essential roles in bringing warmth and character to a space.
Sustainability & Craftsmanship
For Gissler, sustainability begins with quality. Well-crafted furnishings, art, and materials endure physically and emotionally, outlasting trends and reducing waste over time. He embraces antique and vintage pieces for their character, craftsmanship, and ability to live multiple lives in different contexts.
Instead of disposable design, Gissler advocates for thoughtful selection, investing in pieces that age with grace, gather meaning, and contribute to a home’s long-term sense of identity.
Signature Approach
Gissler’s signature lies in his ability to merge architectural clarity with a richly layered interior world. He begins with proportion and flow, then builds upward through art, textiles, furniture, lighting, and decorative objects. Each decision supports both function and emotion, how a space works, and how it makes people feel.
His work resists superficial style labels; instead, he focuses on creating environments that feel collected, expressive, and deeply rooted in the lives of their owners. Art plays a central role, often serving as the emotional anchor of a room and guiding the story of the space.

Designer Q&A: Inspiration, Process & Perspective
How do current fashion trends influence your interior design choices?
We’re influenced far more by the architecture and our clients’ lifestyles than by trends. That’s what drives our decisions.
How do you balance long-lasting design with trends?
We aim to create interiors that endure. Furnishing a home is a significant investment, so thoughtful decisions matter. Quality is always the priority.
What are your thoughts on sustainability in design and how it ties to antiques or vintage pieces?
We look for the highest quality our clients are willing to invest in so pieces can last for years. Vintage and antique items bring distinct character, and keeping them in use supports longevity and sustainability.
What draws you to antique or vintage rugs in your projects?
We love working with Nazmiyal. The selection of antique and vintage rugs is outstanding, and their contemporary offerings are exceptional.
How do you usually incorporate rugs when starting a design scheme, as a foundation or as an accent?
One of the first things we determine is the rug size. We’re very exact about dimensions, and it can be challenging for rug dealers because there’s little flexibility. If we can’t find the perfect rug in the exact size, we may resize one thoughtfully. In other cases, we commission a new rug to match the spirit of an antique in the size we need, and we also work with contemporary rugs.

Rugs & Nazmiyal Collaboration
Gissler’s design process places great emphasis on selecting the right rug early in the project, as size, scale, and proportion shape the entire room. He appreciates antique and vintage rugs for their depth, history, and quiet presence, qualities that align naturally with his layered aesthetic.
Nazmiyal’s wide range of antique, vintage, and contemporary carpets complements his rigorous approach to quality and scale. Whether anchoring a living room, defining a seating area, or echoing the palette of a client’s art collection, a well-chosen rug becomes an architectural element in his hands, not just a decorative detail.
