Beautiful Pair of Antique Chinese Runner Rugs, Country of Origin: China, Circa Date: 1920 – This pair of antique Chinese runner rugs both have the same design. They are made up of a deep indigo ground scattered with small alternating rosettes in tan and gold. The rosettes are drawn loosely enough that no two match exactly, resulting in a charming irregularity. A cream key-fret band frames the field, and outside it, a camel border carries a scrolling vine.
Surviving pairs, such as these, are uncommon. Runner rugs of this kind were often made in twos for long halls or stairways. Pairs are often split up over a century of ownership, so a set still together is a rare find, especially in such similar condition.
