Beautiful Large Ivory and Gold Antique Turkish Oushak Rug, Country of Origin: Turkey, Circa Date: 1900
Two colours do all the work: a saffron gold and a soft coral, both laid over an ivory ground. Large palmettes and serrated leaves spread across the field in a steady repeat, outlined in a deeper rust. Not a thread of it goes dark or cool — the whole surface stays in the warm half of the palette.
The floral drawing is broad rather than fine: each leaf and blossom is made of a few large steps, scaled to be read across a room rather than up close. The border keeps the same cream ground, running a bold gold meander through it with coral rosettes between.
At 13 ft by 15 ft 6 in it falls in the 12 x 15 size range, large enough for a full seating group in a living or dining room. A version at your own measurements can be ordered as a custom rug.
