Vintage Scandinavian Rug, Sweden, Mid-Twentieth Century– Here is a beautiful and exciting vintage rug – a mid-century Scandinavian piece that was designed and woven by the widely admired rug-makers of mid-twentieth century Sweden. A delightful composition, this fetching rug is primarily characterized by its double-sidedness – a favorite style of mid-century Swedish designers. While such a piece naturally has neither a true obverse nor reverse, this piece intriguingly boasts a design that works especially well in this context, with one side simply working as the inverse of the other. For example, one one side of the rug, the topmost horizontal bar is a primarily grey space trimmed with white, while on the other side, this same topmost bar is a primarily white space, trimmed with grey. This pattern is repeated throughout the remainder of the piece; one finds grey trimmed with red on one side, and then red trimmed with grey on the other; grey trimmed with blue on one side, blue trimmed with grey on the other; grey trimmed with green on one side, green trimmed with grey on the other; and, finally, grey trimmed with yellow on one side, yellow trimmed with grey on the other. A delightful and whimsical piece, this is truly two rugs in one.
