Across the runner rug’s field flowering branches form approximately circular openwork medallions with birds perched at the centers. These are all set in staggered array in pale sand, mauve, and celadon green tones against a dramatic black field. The barely discernible vine scroll border echoes the tone-on-tone coloration for the field motifs to give the impression of a neutral, open frame. This antique rug is a masterpiece of naturalism and reserved classic elegance.
