Swedish Wool Pile Rug, Sweden, Mid 20th Century – This magnificent Swedish Rya rug adapts the traditional vocabulary of antique Scandinavian Rollakan tapestry coverlets to a thick pile or Rya format. Like the Rollakan, the designs are pictorial but highly stylized or abstract with human and plant forms arranged in vertical columns. The palette is at once both cool and warm with its juxtaposition of slate blue, yellow, and apricot tones.
