Antique Tabriz Persian Rug 43231

Antique Tabriz Rug, Persia, Late 19th Century - Recalling the great court carpets of the Safavid era, a classic Persian garden or paradise scene graces the field of this sumptuous antique Tabriz. Although the composition is bilaterally symmetrical, the various floral and animal elements do not repeat as a pattern but are arranged rather as a depiction, defying the distinction between ornament and pictorial composition, as well as the distinction between weaving and painting. Miniature scenes of the same king repeat in series to produce the main border. The delicate palette of soft apricot, green, and ivory tones is exquisite, greatly enhancing the decorative appeal and potential of the carpet within contemporary decor.
