Antique Oushak Rug, Turkey, Early 20th Century - This charming antique Oushak has a design derived from classical Northwest Persian garden carpets. To either side of a central inscribed cartouche are stylized shrubs and L-shaped stylized willow branches in ivory and apricot, all set against a soft brown field. The main borders are narrow with a simple floral vinescroll, flanked by geometric minor borders to frame the field more effectively. The softness of the coloration is nicely underscored by the lustrous sheen of the soft wool pile.
