Antique Oushak, Turkey, circa 1900 Although the weave and coloration of this antique carpet are unmistakably Oushak, its garden design comes from the classical repertoire of Northwest Persia. Sycamore tress, poplars, and weeping willows, along with a host of stylized shrubs and flowers, all repeat in golden and aubergine tones across the soft blue ground. A selection of the smaller shrubs comprises the main border on a golden ground, echoing the elements of the field and yet varying them.
