Antique Khorassan Persian Rugs 41992
Antique Khorassan carpet, Persia, circa 1900 Each of the thirty seven compartments that make of the field of this sumptuous antique Khorassan is virtually a rug of its own. Some have medallions, others have gardenscapes, prayer rug arches, or stylized vinescroll and palmettes designs. Some compartments have design portions reminiscent of Persian wagirehs or sampler rugs. They all repeat in irregular sequence, but following a strict bilateral symmetry down the center of the field. A rich vinescroll main border continues the texture and coloration for the field, but with a wholly different design, varying the overall composition, while also unifying it. The quiescent palette of golds, soft blues, greens, and rust or earthen tones balances the miniscule complexity and detail of the design.
