Hamadan Rug, Persia, Circa 1900 - Knotted with Turkish knots of midnight blue and Parisian gold, this Hamedan exhibits the value of symmetry in the islamocentric 19th century Persia. Encompassing a wide range of design styles, this rug follows the traditional prayer rug design, but features a number of Turkish-influenced elements as well. The color blue was in common use by the 19th century in Persia, which is reflected in its deep washes of midnight blue and ultramarine. A booming indigo dye market in India provided regional craftmakers with a wide range of new colors to use in their craft.
