Perfectly restrained, this vintage Moroccan rug has a balanced sense of style and an inherently minimalist aesthetic that incorporates prehistoric designs.

Moroccan Rug, Morocco, Mid-20th Century – This luxurious vintage mid-century Moroccan rug perfectly embodies the profound modernity of ancient designs. Used as iconography devices since Neolithic times, the humble lozenge motif is the star of this understated latticework carpet. These devices depict important life events while giving the composition tremendous modern appeal. Soft linear motifs crisscross the field creating a splendid latticework pattern with mottled brown-and-white roan shading that emphasizes the sumptuous texture of the long, luxurious pile. In true minimalist fashion, isolated details and symbols decorate the protective lozenge-shaped compartments. The familiar fetter motif, depicted as conjoined triangles, is the ultimate duality symbol representing the unity of marriage in Moroccan designs and carpets as far away as the Caucasus. These isolated symbolic decorations effectively break the repeating pattern while giving the minimalist design an alluring sense of mystery.
