Antique Persian Serab Rug, Persia, Final Quarter of the 19th Century – This exceptional antique Persian corridor carpet represents the best of Serab’s rectilinear style, which has a rustic tribal feel. This narrow corridor-style rug features a superb stacked medallion, a quintessential Serab design. However, this distinctive variation features an unusual combination of coffered medallions separated by octagonal guls. Ram’s horns, combs, eye motifs and ancient protection symbols decorate each unique medallion. The secondary guls feature lozenge checkers surrounded by a wealth of space fillers, including matrimonial fetter symbols, geometric animals, quincunx motifs and esoteric pictographs. Delicate pinwheel guard bands encircle the elongated field alongside monochromatic borders featuring angular animals and a brindled abrash. This stunning antique Serab runner is a true collector’s piece ideal for long hallways as well as narrow spaces created by sideboards, sofas and grand furnishings.
